On God and prayer
On God and prayer
People nowadays expect prayer to do things that it doesn’t need to do. Instead of praying for someone on their deathbed to be healed we should be praying that they would be saved and walk with their lord and saviour; instead of praying for better marks on a test we need to be praying for greater concentration; instead of praying for greater understanding we should pray that the opportunities to grow in understanding become more apparent to us. God changes people who change the world, he doesn’t work as much through miracles and the physical anymore. Why would you when there are people who want to grow in their relationship with you?
I really like the example of prayer in Evan Almighty. Evan’s wife prays that the family would come close together or something similar and later ‘God’ explains that he won’t just make that happen but he will present us with more opportunities for us to make it happen. That way we actually grow in faith instead of being simply ‘upgraded’ for want of a better term.
Start thinking about what you’re ask God for. Make it things that involve you growing in faith, pray for chances to grow in your faith, pray for greater awareness of others and opportunities to show them God’s love.
